Frequently asked questions.
How do I know if it's the right time for therapy?
Honestly, there's no perfect time, but many people reach out when they start feeling truly stuck, like they're repeating the same old patterns without a way out. Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed, isolating yourself, or noticing you just can't bring yourself to answer texts. If you’re wondering how you made it to adulthood but feel lonely or disconnected, those are all strong signals that it’s time to find support. If you're even asking the question, it's a sign worth exploring!
How do we get started?
The first step is simply booking a quick, free consultation with me. This is really important because it's our chance to see if we "click." You should feel totally comfortable and open to sharing with your therapist, and since I’m just a person, too, this consult helps us check the vibe. If I think someone else might be a better expert for your specific challenge, I’ll happily connect you with a great referral.
Do we meet in person?
Nope! I only offer telehealth sessions, which means we meet securely online via video. You get to skip the drive, forget about parallel parking, and join me from your comfiest spot. My only rule is that you need to be in a private, stationary location so you have the space to focus.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, for those in Connecticut (CT) or Florida (FL), I can work with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of CT, Anthem EAP, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, and Quest Behavioral Health. If you have different insurance, I also accept Out-of-Network (OON) payments and HSA cards. Just let me know, and I can give you a Superbill (a special receipt) that you can send to your insurer to get reimbursed. Keep in mind you’ll need to confirm your coverage details with them directly. My fee for OON clients is $150 for an hour-long individual session.
What style of therapy do you use?
My approach is person-centered, meaning I believe that you are the expert of your own life! I know you already have the capacity and skill to make changes to improve your life, and my job is to help you access those strengths. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help heal from past hurts, and we explore attachment styles to understand how your early relationships influence your current patterns. We use the safety of our therapeutic relationship to gently look at and shift those patterns together.
What exactly is EMDR?
Think of EMDR as a way to help your brain heal from upsetting or traumatic past events—like hitting a reset button. When something bad happens, the memory can get "stuck" in a painful, overwhelming way. EMDR uses gentle, guided movements, like following my finger or a light, to engage both sides of your brain. This helps your brain move that "stuck" memory into a place where it feels like a normal memory, so you can think about what happened without feeling completely overwhelmed by it in the present.
Can EMDR really work online?
Absolutely! We use secure, special online tools that deliver the bilateral stimulation—like a gentle tap or visual prompt—that makes EMDR work. It’s just as effective online as it is when we're in the same room.
What if I need to cancel our scheduled appointment?
Life happens, and I get that! You can always reschedule an appointment for free as long as you let me know at least 24 hours before our session time. If you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice, or if you don't show up, there is a $50.00 fee. We'll need to settle that balance before we can book your next session.
